IDEA Tech Fest
This past weekend I had the privilege to co-host IDEA Tech Fest with Brian Rogers and Lee Quessenberry. The weekend event included a G60 pitch competition Friday evening and the IDEA Tech Fest conference on Saturday, held at the Arkansas State University Delta Center in Jonesboro, AR. The one day conference is a re-brand of BarCamp Jonesboro. BarCamp Jonesboro was started and ran by Steven Trotter of Pleth, LLC.
G60 was a huge success. A new record was set at 39 pitches from local students and entrepreneurs. The ideas pitched ranged from a new way to lock and unlock your home door(s), musical school books, a pizza & beer delivery service, and new ways to track your pets.
The winners were:
1st - Auto Window Opener
2nd - Change For The Planet
3rd - Musical Textbooks
IDEA Tech Fest
The Saturday conference kicked off at 8 am with breakfast and networking. I was thrilled to see that the majority of the attendees had never attended a previous conference before. Yes, it would have been amazing to see all my friends again but I love to network with new people and get feedback. The event started off with Jeff Stinson's talk on Angel Capital Investing, which was fantastic. The next few hours sessions were split into Development, Marketing, and Business tracks with topics ranging from Mobile Development, Social Media, Lean Canvas Model, and 3D Printing. The event closed with a few 60 second pitches from students, Power Point Karaoke, and an open floor discussion with feedback.
I did not hear anything negative about the event. Each person I talked to said they learned something throughout the day and are looking forward to the next IDEA Tech Fest!
As always, we want the next event to be better than the first. We'll be collecting feedback and working with the community to prepare for more events next year.
